2026 has been a turning point for peptide therapy. On October 28, HHS announced that state-licensed pharmacies may compound all six under strict quality standards while the FDA finalizes its rules. After years of uncertainty, physicians who have followed this field closely, including Dr. Melamed, are thrilled to offer these therapies through safe, regulated channels.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as messengers in the body, signaling cells to repair, recover and function more efficiently. As we age, many of these signals naturally decline, which is where peptide therapy comes in.
But with so much information online, it can be hard to know what’s real, what’s hype and what’s right for you. Dr. Julia Melamed is a triple board-certified physician, including board certification in Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine, and has completed extensive advanced training in peptide therapy. A peptide expert and active member of the International Peptide Society, she breaks down the six peptides patients ask about most.
BPC-157: Whole-Body Healing Support
BPC-157, short for Body Protection Compound, is often described as a foundational peptide for healing. It is studied for its potential to support tissue repair in skin, muscle, bone and ligaments, and for its antioxidant and protective effects on cells.
It has also gained attention for gut health. BPC-157 is widely discussed for supporting the protective lining of the stomach and intestines, which is why patients with digestive concerns often ask about it.
TB-500: Recovery for Active Bodies
TB-500 is derived from Thymosin Beta-4, a naturally occurring protein involved in repair. It is commonly used to support recovery from sports injuries and soft-tissue strain, with the goal of healthier healing and less scar tissue. Many patients use it alongside BPC-157.
KPV: Calming Inflammation
KPV is a small but potent peptide known for its potential to quiet inflammation, especially in the gut and skin. It is rarely used alone. Instead, it is often part of a healing combination with BPC-157, TB-500 and GHK-Cu, a copper peptide known for skin and collagen support.
MOTS-c: Metabolism and Energy
MOTS-c is produced by our mitochondria, the energy centers of our cells, and its levels drop with age. Research interest centers on how it may support energy use, leaner body composition, exercise performance, heart health and bone density.
For patients in a medical weight loss program, MOTS-c may complement GLP-1 medications. Timing matters here, so Dr. Melamed guides how the two are scheduled.
Epitalon: Longevity and Sleep
Epitalon is one of the most studied peptides in longevity research, associated with telomeres, the protective caps on our chromosomes that shorten as we age. It is also discussed for supporting restful sleep, mood, cognition and antioxidant defense.
Semax: Focus and Stress Resilience
Semax is a neuroprotective peptide, usually given as a nasal spray. Patients exploring it often want help with brain fog, chronic stress or a flat mood, and want sharper focus without a stimulant.
Are Peptides Safe and Legal?
This is the most important question, and the honest answer is that the rules are changing. In July 2026, an FDA advisory committee voted in favor of allowing pharmacies to compound BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, MOTS-c, Epitalon and Semax. The FDA’s final decision is still pending, and these peptides are not FDA-approved drugs.
That’s exactly why who prescribes your peptides matters. Products sold online as “research chemicals” carry real risks of contamination, incorrect dosing, heavy metals and mislabeling. At Melamed Weight & Wellness, Dr. Melamed follows the regulatory landscape closely and only offers therapies that are appropriate, legal and suited to your health history.
